Kilauea Eruption January 2023: Ala Kai Bed and Breakfast

After Mauna Loa's exciting and spectacular eruption the deep magma pressure was relieved and both Mauna Loa and Kilauea took a two week break. Suddenly there was a new even better eruption at Kilauea!

Suzy and I had guests, that had traveled all the way from Germany and they were disappointed that Kilauea was dormant. Suddenly before their very eyes, there was a rumbling and a fountain of lava 164 feet high created a tidal wave in the Halama'uma'u crater! The family had tears in their eyes and knew that they just had a once in a lifetime experience.

Suzy and I arrived at about 4:30 PM to have a look around. We visited Kilauea Point where there was parking and a very short walk to the craters edge.

We shot the video and then went to Kilauea Military Camp for a beer and prime rib dinner. Civilians are welcome and there was a live blues band playing.

We returned to see one of the most spectacular sights we have ever seen! There was a full moon rising, an amazing milky way, and a stunning lava lake with geysers. There was lots of spectators and the mood was emotional and full of awe.
