Summary

Ponds is Ala Kai Bed and Breakfasts favorite restaurant in in Hilo. It’s situated on Reeds Bay Ice Ponds, a cold spring-fed pond in Hilo Bay. It’s “old school” Hawaii and has great ambiance. We love the deep fried opakapaka (a deep water local snapper) and garlic fries. The furikaki seared ahi cesar salad, prime rib and mashed potatoes and the lilikoi margaritas are top notch. Lunch is reasonably priced and dinner a bit more.

Our usual routine is the find a reason to go to the grocery store and then have lunch at Ponds. If you’re a Hilo kid, this is the spot to jump off the bridge so, it’s very entertaining to watch the show.

There is usually some nice ukulele live music from a local artist and koi and turtles swimming in the ponds. The front of Ponds is a bit rough but, inside it is a very unique Hawaiian experience.
