Green Sand Beach

Papakolea Green Sand Beach is one of only four green sand beaches in the world, making it an extraordinary and bucket-list-worthy destination on the Big Island of Hawaii. The beach owes its remarkable color to olivine crystals — a semi-precious mineral eroded from the surrounding volcanic cinder cone called Pu'u Mahana. Nestled within a dramatic collapsed lava crater open to the sea, the beach feels like a hidden world tucked away from everyday life, with turquoise waves crashing against vivid green shores and rust-red volcanic cliffs towering overhead. It's a geological marvel unlike anything most visitors have ever witnessed.
